ASSIGNMENT (20%)

This assignment requires students to produce written reports on the topic assigned. The report
should be written using the following format:

1. Cover Page (YELLOW COLOUR): Assignment’s title, name of the group member
2. Content: Introduction of the relevant concepts (1 pg), discussion of the topic assigned (3-
4 pgs), conclusion (1 pg).
3. References – should have at least two articles (Using APA system).
4. Technical writing format – Times New Roman, spacing 1½, font 12

The assignment will be evaluated based on:


1. Written report (20%)
a. Stage 1 (5%) – Submission of articles and discussion of assignment on how the
topic should be written up. (in other words; supporting articles as a reference will
give you 5 marks)
b. Stage 2 (15%) – Submission of assignment. Score on assignment would be
evaluated based on the above mentioned format: Cover page (.05%), introduction
(2%), discussion (11%), conclusion (1%), references (.05%).
c. Submission Date: 27 APRIL 2011
The following are the titles of the assignment:

1. Describe how technology impacts HR services, including communication, access to


information, and measurement of HR activities.

2. The organization that you work for has recently had sexual harassment litigation brought
against it. In response, the top management has asked you to develop a management
strategy against sexual harassment. Discuss how you would develop such a plan.

NEW YORK: Seorang pengurus kanan sumber manusia wanita di Toshiba Corp memfailkan
saman berjumlah AS$100 juta (RM306 juta) ke atas majikannya itu kerana didakwa
mengamalkan diskriminasi terhadap wanita dalam bayaran gaji dan kenaikan pangkat. Plaintif,
Elaine Cyphers, berpendapat dasar Toshiba America Inc menyebabkan kakitangan wanita
dibayar gaji dan bonus lebih rendah daripada golongan lelaki yang melakukan kerja yang sama.
Cyphers berkata, hasilnya “sesuatu yang menghairankan kerana kekurangan wanita dalam
jawatan tinggi,” walaupun Toshiba sudah mewujudkan polisi kesaksamaan jantina sejak enam
tahun lalu. Aduan itu berkata hanya 3.4 peratus daripada 6,273 pengurus Toshiba di seluruh
dunia adalah wanita.“Jumlah ini mengerikan,” kata David Sanford, rakan kongsi Sanford Wittels
& Heisler LLP yang mewakili Cyphers, dalam satu temubual. “Kami percaya tuntutan ini penting
dan ia boleh dijadikan asas dalam perundangan,” kata jurucakap Toshiba, Tom Gallatin dalam
emelnya. Beliau berkata, syarikat itu lazimnya tidak membincangkan isu perundangan yang
sedang diadili. Cyphers berkata, beliau adalah pengurus sumber manusia di Toshiba America
Nuclear Energy Corp dan kakitangan sumber manusia memegang jawatan paling tinggi dalam
unit di negara itu. Wanita itu berkata, beliau dibayar AS$90,000 hingga AS$91,000 (RM275,399
hingga RM278,459) di antara tahun 2008 hingga 2010, sedangkan lelaki yang memegang
jawatan sama di Toshiba dibayar kira-kira AS$120,000 (RM367,199) setahun. – Reuters
