INTRODUCTION

Virtual keyboard is just another example of todays computer trend of ‘smaller and
faster’. Computing is now not limited to desktops and laptops, it has found its way
into mobile devices like palm tops and even cell phones. But what has not changed
for the last 50 or 80 odd years is the input device, the good old QWERTY keyboard
and the virtual keyboard technology is the latest development

The new virtual keyboard technology uses sensor technology and artificial
intelligence to let users work on any surface as if it were a keyboard. Virtual
keyboard lets you easily create multilingual text content on almost any existing
platform and output it directly to PDAs or even WebPages. Virtual keyboard being a
small, handy, well designed and easy to use application, turns into perfect solution for
cross platform multilingual text input. The main features are: platform independent
multilingual support for keyboard text input, built in language layout and settings,
copy/paste etc. operation support just as in a regular text editor, already existing
system language settings remain intact, easy and user friendly interface and design,
and small file size.
PROJECTION KEYBOARDS

The virtual keyboard development has developed an IR light source, image projection
unit and a sensor to record hand movements in 3D .when combined these components
result in a projected keyboard which can be overlaid on a flat surface and then used
as a standard keyboard, relaying strokes to the hand held device. The chipset is
relatively smaller, and can be easily integrate using standard serial keyboard
interfaces. It can be rapidly customized to project keyboard in any format or
language.
“mobile and wireless devices have untethed business professionals from their
office ,yet so much about mobile technology remains the legacy of desktop
computing”, so the virtual keyboard developers has been b demonstrating its
technology .With important, new wireless applications emerging projection keyboard
and mouse, fully integrated into a pocket sized mobile device, means that mobile
professionals will finally be able to use these device as easily as thy would a desktop
computer and perhaps leave their laptops at home.
Basically projection keyboard made lf light, which heralds an end to the day of
those working on the move having to lug around numerous gadgets. This pockets
sized device plugs into your had held and utilizes a three dimensional .solid state,
laser imaging system to project a full sized keyboard on any flat surface. The gadget
uses tiny cameras to track where somebody is putting their fingers in relation to a
map of a full sized keyboard, and from there translates that movement is not actual
data which is reflected on the had held device. Standalone version of the keyboard
would cost between us$100 and us$ 150.
It can also do mouse functions so you get the ease of a full sized keyboard, but if
appears any where you want to use it. The keyboard is made possible by a tiny sensor
fitted with three chips. One to bean the keyboard image the other to pick up the
movement of typing fingers .That typing movement interacts with the light and sends
signals to the sensor.

VIRTUAL KEYBOARD TECHNOLOGY

Virtual keyboard uses sensor technology and artificial intelligent to let users work on
any surface as it were a keyboard. Virtual device have developed a flashlight gadget
that projects an image of a keyboard on any surface and let’s people input data by
typing on the image.
This system comprises of three modules
1. the sensor module
2. IR light source
3. The pattern projector

VIRTUAL KEYBOARD SENSOR MODULE

THE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD sensor module (s-m- ck100) serves as the eyes of the
virtual keyboards perception chipset and features patent_ pending electronic
perception technology .it includes an integrated lens that performs all necessary
filtering and focusing functions. Making it easy to integrate the module into a final
product working in conjunction with the virtual keyboard light source, the sm-ck100
enables both keyboard data input and mouse functionality without the confining
limitations of a physical form factor
The device defects movement when fingers are pressed down. Those movements are
measured and the device accurately determines the intended keystrokes and translates
them into text. There is set of clips that fit into your had and try to sense the motion of
fingers and hands and translate them into keystrokes. The translation process also
uses artificial intelligence. Once the keystroke has been decoded it is sent to the
portable device either by cable or via wireless.

VIRTUAL KEYBOARD IRLIGHT SOURCE

Virtual keyboard IR light source (IR – ck –100) plays a critical role in any virtual
keyboard perception chipset implementation by enabling virtual keyboards patterned
electronic perception technology. The module collects the I laser diode and all the
associated optics into a single concise package, making it easy to integrate into a final
product .the IR light source operates by emitting a beam of infrared light .This light
beam is designed to overlap the area on which the virtual keyboard pattern projector
(pp- ck100) displays the keyboard layout so that user’s fingers are illuminated by the
infrared light beam .The virtual keyboard sensor module (s-m-ck 100) detects the
finger movements and the typing activity is resolved into the appropriate key strikers
or mouse act

VIRTUAL KEYBOARD PATTERN PROJECT

The virtual keyboard pattern projector (pp-ck100) presents the image of the virtual
keyboard .The projector features a wide angle lens so that a large pattern can be
projected from the relatively low elevations associated with model device .when
activated. The pattern projector displays a standard “QWERTY’ keyboard layout into
a flat surface such as a desk or the side of a briefcase .The projected keyboard image
can then be used it enter data into the device such as a cell phone or a PDA in a
efficient and familiar way. The deficit projected keyboard pattern has been optimized to
improved typing accuracy and include shot keys for popular applications .To further
improve usability ,the virtual pattern projector features adjustable brightness levels so
that both manufactures and end users can configure the pattern projector to let meet the
unique requirement so the application environment and their individual preference.
Used with smart phones and PDA s the u key** provides a practical way to do email
word processing and spreadsheet tasks, allowing the user to leave the laptop
computers at home .u key technology has many application in various high tech and
industrial sectors . These include data entry and control panel application is hazardous
and harsh environments and medical markets.
Projection keyboards or virtual keyboards claim to provide the convenience of
compactness with the advantages of a full- blown QWERTY keyboard. An interesting
use of such keyboards would be in sterile environments where silence or low noise
essential like in a operation theaters .The advantage of such a system is that you do
not need a surface for typing, you can even type in the plan air. There is also a
provision for a pause fiction to avoid translating extraneous hand movements function
,so that users can stop to eat drink etc………..

It is also a superior desktop computer keyboard featuring dramatically easier to learn

touch- typing and leaving on a hand free mouse of phone .Combination key presses
(“chords” ) of five main and two extra control keys allows user to type at 25-60words
per minute, with possibly grater speeds achieved through the use of abbreviation
expansion software .Most users however, will final emorizingt the chords easy and
fun, with the included typing tutorial .the keyboard doesn’t demand a lot of
force, easing strain an swists and digits virtual keyboard service the problem of sore
thuybs that can be c aused by typing on tiny keyboard of various gage its like PDA s
and cell phones .They are meant to meet the needs of mobile computer users
struggling with cumbersome .tiny or non-existent keyboard .it might help to prevent
RSI injuries.
The virtual keyboard uses an extremely durable material which is extremely easily to
clean.the vkbinn;t restricted to the QWERTY tuch –typing paradigm, adjustments can
be done to the software to fit other toch typint pardigams as well.such as DVORAK
keynoard .It will work with all typws of Bluwtooth enabled devices such as PDAs
and smarphones .aswellas wearable computer s . applicatio include compuiter/ PDAs
input ganing control ,tv remote control and musical applications..thus virtual
keyboard will make typing easier ,faster and almost a pleasure .

VIRTUAL DEVICES

Recently a new class of device has started to emerge which is conceptually rooted in
exploting the input /out put duality. They can be called projectin / vision systems
and /or projection / scanning or projection/camara technologies. In the “pure” case.
These are devices that case a laser.for exampil ,to project an imae of the input
controller such as slider of keypd onto a surface. In doing so,they are performinf a
fuction anaylogous to an LCD displaying the image of avirtual device under atouch
scdree n .however, inthiscase, the laser is also used to scan the same surface that it
projecting onto, thereby enbling the device to “see” how your fingers, for example ,are
interacting with the project virtual divice..
Ina slightlyless pure “hybrid’form ,the projection and scanning functions can be
performed by two separate ,nut intergrated technologies .for example instead of alaser
projector ,aconvetional video or data projector coujld bne usede and anintegrated
video camera (supported nby vision software)usedforinput.

Both the’ pure ‘and ‘hybjrid’ chsses of device have been used and have stringhrs
andweaknesses .since laser is farless advanced than conventional data projection, the
hybrid sometimes has advatageson display side .however 2D and 3D scanning using
lazer is fr,pre developed than 2Dand 3D using vedeo based techniques .going
forward ,one can expect laser projection technology to advace extremely
quickly, especially inits ability to deliver extremely small, lowpower.briught ,relatively
high resolutionprojectin capability . this will likely have astronfg impact on have hw
interact with small portable defices such as PDAs,mobile phones and even wrist
watches.notonlydoesthis techbology provede a mens to couple lare (virtual)I/O
transducers with small devices ,it provjiders the potential for sharing and interacting
with others ,despite using devicesas small as wristwatch.
