15 UNDER SETS THE BAR!

WILLIAMSON REPEATS AGAIN!
For the third week in a row, Jim Williamson managed
to be on the winning team, confirming his status as the
2006 lucky partner of choice. Joining Williamson on this
day with the best score of the year of 15 under were
Doug Gooding (who also paired with Williamson last
week-hence these two are forever forbidden to play
together again), P. J. Wade (who as draw partner also
was on the losing team), and Henry Sawyer (more on
this guy later.) This week’s tournament sponsors were 7
under finishers Andy Tyber, Tim Martin, Lee Pearson,
and draw partner P.J. Wade who broke even on the deal.

SAWYER’S CAREER BEST GRABS

BOTH LOW GROSS AND LOW NET
OF THE DAY!
Fourteen handicapper Henry Sawyer, playing for the
first time after a two week hiatus in Europe, beat the
entire field by shooting a career round of 37 (this after
three putting #9), besting the single digiters for Low
Gross and slamming the rest of the field with the record
setting Low Net of 6 under. Sawyer, who was the first
to reserve a spot for this week’s match via
transatlantic e-mail, was giddy in confirming it was his
career best, which seemed to soothe the feelings and
lower the arched eyebrows of his envious fellow ATAGers.
Nevertheless, many later expressed the opinion that
should such a “career round” happen again, it should be
death by “boogada boogada”.

CORRIGAN GRABS THE TOP SPOT!

SELLNER BREAKS 50!
Twenty four handicapper Fank Corrigan claimed the top
spot with a 54 while playing partner Craig Sellner, a 28
handicapper, continued his week by week improvement
by finally breaking 50 with a solid round of 47, besting a
beleaguered Don Nichols whose lingering swing virus
propelled him to the second highest score of 48.

MULTIPLE SHOTS OF THE DAY!

FLAT STICKS RULE!
A lot of good golf was played on this day, with the flat
stick playing a major role in some of the good scores posted.
Sharing Shot Of The Day honors were: Henry Sawyer –
two birdie putts of 35 and 40 feet—Tim Martin, 35 ft
putt for birdie on # 1—Ron Majors, 20 ft par putt on # 3
—Lee Pearson’s second attempt out of the bunker on # 7 to
make birdie-- and Brad Reese’s booming tee shot from
the back tee box against the retaining wall on # 7 that
landed within a foot of the lake (reportedly with a 3 wood).
“ I have to cancel my

that leaving work early towhile those adding to their cumulative total included Henry

lightning strike. “ Lee Pearson, Brad Reese, and Richard Batelaan.

OTHER TIDBITS:

“How to properly line up unlucky draw partner P. J Wade who saw his victory

( a chapter from the “Truly
Useful Golf Book”) ▪ After the outcome of the match was determined, the
players were entertained by a Reading by Ron Majors
entitled “Perspectives On Golf, the first time such an
event has occurred at an ATAG gathering. The players
were captivated as Reverend Ron read the litany of golf
truisms to the group. (well, not really captivated, more
like a “when is this going to be over” look). (Other
readings by Reverend Ron may be in store so be sure
not to miss any future matches.)
▪ Rick Eaton, currently on probation, made a cameo
appearance on the porch and stayed to drink and
socialize, even attempting to tell a joke which he forgot in
mid stream.
▪ A side bet between the last two threesomes was
lost by the ill fated Pearson/Tyber/Martin trio, who
had to kick in the agreed upon 20 gold fish to each
player on the other team. Lee “what about my
needs?” Pearson made the presentation on behalf of his
team.
ATAG
Ansley Tuesday Afternoon ■ ATAG Humorist Tom Kisgen told some of his
Golf Tour summer rerun jokes to the delight of the crowd, mainly
Ansley Golf Club because most did not remember they had heard the jokes
1912 before (an advantage of getting older). The
196 Montgomery Ferry Dr Commissioner appointed Tim Martin to be next
Atlanta, Ga 30309 week’s joke teller, with an option to provide his own
“reading” if he so desired. (Martin responded to the
latter suggestion with the universal sign of oneness.)

■ Players were in good spirits and a large contingent

remained for quite a while. (Even the hatless Andy Tyber
stayed around longer than usual.)
■ Note: It turns out that ATAG is indeed under
investigation by the Handicap Police of the USGA who
has reported that ATAGers are not turning in their 9
hole scores. After completing its own investigation, the
ATAG Handicap Committee has validated the
complaint. The Commissioner is currently negotiating a
settlement with the USGA whereby ATAG statistics
being kept by the Commissioner will be made available
to the Ansley Pro Shop at the end of every month, with
a copy forwarded to USGA headquarters. This is serious
stuff folks. We will continue to keep you posted.
