Consider an LTI system with an even


unit sample response

= e2 jω + 2e jω + 3 + 2e− jω + e−2 jω
DTFT is = 2cos(2ω ) + 4cos(ω ) + 3
Real & Even (Zero Phase)

 Frequency response is real, so system


has “zero” phase shift
 This is to be expected since unit
sample response is real and even.
Linear Phase

H (e ) = e + 2e + 3 + 3e +e
= e − 2 jω (e 2 jω + 2e jω + 3 + 2e − jω + e − 2 jω )
= e − 2 jω (2 cos(2ω ) + 4 cos(ω ) + 3)

H = FREQZ(B,A,F,Fs) gives complex frequency response at vector
