Since2006,RangeResourceshas beenactivelyengagedin producingnaturalgas from

Marcellus
shalewellsdrilledin Mt. PleasantTownship.Duringthattime,our relationship
withTownshipofficialsand someof the citizensof the Townshiphas gonethroughsome
growingpains.Whileour intenthasalwaysbeento be goodneighbors and act in a
-fownship
responsible
way,the actionsof the ofticialshavechangedour view.

We havespenta greatdealof time and resourcesin an effortto improvethe way we do

business. Throughout the state,Rangeis heldup as the modelfor the naturalgas drilling
industry;everywhere, that is, exceptMt. Pleasant.Whilewe havemadeeveryeffortto
establisha positiveand robustworkingrelationship with yourelectedofficials,our attempts
continueto be rejected.As a result,we are sendingthis communication to informyou that
we haverevisedour futurelong-termplansin the Townshipdue to continuingdifficulties
withyourTownshipsupervisors and theirunwillingnessto workwithus.As it stands,those
revisionsmay prove detrimental to leaseholders.

Ultimately, we may be forcedto shiftactivityto other,morecooperative townships.The

shiftingof operationalactivitieswill inevitablyresultin the shiftof relatedactivities,including
the purchaseof goods,servicesand food to other,morecooperative communities. We will
be hostingan openmeetingfor Mt. PleasantresidentsApril 6that the Hickory Fire Hall,
from 6-8 pm to provideresidents,landownersand businessownersa moredetailedlayout
of our plansfor the comingyear. In addition, we willbe evaluating legalaction,including
federaland statecoursesof action. We regretany hardshipthis may causeyou,but after
monthsof efforton our part,we are leftwith no otherchoice.
