Kindergarten Reading/Writing

I. Objective:

• The students will listen to the story, Move Over!

• As the story is read, the students will listen to determine what happens
in the beginning, middle and ending of the story.

• After participating in a class discussion, the students will write what


happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story.

II. TEKS:

• K.1A Determine the purpose for listening such as to get information or to


solve problems.

• K.1B Respond appropriately to directions and questions.

• K.1D Listen critically to interpret and evaluate.

• K.1E Listen responsively to stories and other texts read aloud.

• K.3C Ask and answer relevant questions and make contributions in small or
large group discussions.

• K.15C Write to record ideas and reflections.


III. Materials:

• Move Over!

• Cow templates to write on

IV. Procedure:

A. Introduction

-Review BME from prior lesson (Rudolph)

-Review genre: fiction or non-fiction and review the difference between


each

B. Development-Activities

Guided Practice

-Read the story and ask comprehension questions

• Why do you think the animals wanted to sleep on the waterbed?

• Why was the goat mad?

• Why didn’t the other animals want the goat to get on the bed?

• What do you think the farmer is going to do when he sees his bed?
Independent Practice

-Students will record B,M,E on cow template.

C. Closure-Review-Evaluation

-Review BME

-Turn in all completed work for teacher review and evaluation

Extensions:

-Read Move Over!

-Discuss the farmer in the story and how they think he will react when he
sees his bed. Add another page to the book showing the farmer’s reaction.

Modifications:

• The assistant will take Mark and Anthony aside and complete the
writing portion of this assignment in a small group setting.

• Alisha will trace the sentences that are needed to complete the
assignment. I will write the sentences for her in a yellow marker.
