Leavenworth’s Tickseed
(Coreopsis leavenworthii)

Leavenworth’s Tickseed can be


found growing in moist pinelands,
ditches and swales. Yellow
flowers appear in summer
months in North Florida
and year-round in
South Florida.

goldenmane tickseed
(Coreopsis basalis)

Goldenmane Tickseed grows


in sunny sites that have dry,
sandy soil. This variety is
an annual whose flowers
are bright yellow in
the spring.
Black-eyed Susan
(Rudbeckia hirta)

Black-eyed Susan is a wildflower that likes


sandhills, bogs and pine forests. It is
commonly known as the Black-eyed
Susan because of its dark center.
Semaphore Pricklypear
(Opuntia spinosissima)

Semaphore Pricklypear was


thought eliminated from Florida in
1979; however, a small
patch has been found
on a single Florida Key.
Blanket Flower
(Gaillardia pulchella)

Blanket Flower is native to Florida and found throughout the state. It grows in
sunny, well drained areas with yellow and red blooms from May to October.
Drumheads or Milkwort
(Polygala cruciata)

Drumheads or Milkwort are found in


flatwoods, bogs and roadside ditches
throughout most of Florida. It blooms
from late spring to fall.
Blue-eyed Grass
(Sisyrinchium angustifolium)

The Blue-eyed Grass is a cousin of the Iris.


It grows in moist soil and like it’s name
tells us, it has blue blooms in the spring.
Pine Lily
(Lilium catesbaei)

Pine Lily is a short herb of wet pinelands and


roadsides. It grows from a small bulb, with
grass-like leaves and a single flower atop
the 1 to 2 foot stem.
Buffalo Clover
(Trifolium reflexum)

Buffalo Clover flowers from May through July with purple-red flowers.
Coral Bean
(Erythrina flabelliformis)

Coral Bean is found in coastal areas of


southern Florida and grows inland in parts of
the state farther north. Hummingbirds visit
the flowers for nectar.
Annual Phlox
(Phlox drummondii)

Annual Phlox blooms from March through June. The blooms come in
a variety of colors including white, pink, purple and red.
Celestial Lily
(Nemastylis floridana)

Celestial Lily is an endangered plant which grows only in pine flatwoods in eastern
peninsular Florida. It blooms in the fall, and its flowers do not open until late afternoon.
Florida Anisetree
(Illicium floridanum)

Florida Anisetree is a small shrub found in


creek swamps and bluffs of the Panhandle.
It blooms during March and April.
