there were tears somewhere in our

history but we have forgotten
exactly why.
I watched you come up
the drive and i saw the hesitation
after all the time we wasted mis-
understanding the syntax, the context
the rolling verbs that
used to grind us underfoot, i watched you climb
that hill, a small but steep incline and there
in the sunlight that striped your face, i saw
your slight shrug, your wistful smile as you kept
walking towards my door.
