1. Still Standing. Thanks for all the inquiries that we received in the aftermath of the
tornadoes. We have contacted all affiliates and members around the state and other
than minor damage everyone is OK. Our thoughts and prayers go out those who
suffered losses. If there are any members/associates that need assistance please let
us know immediately. FEMA reported 58,000 Alabamians have registered for
assistance and approximately $35 million in financial benefits has been provided.

2. Business Opportunities as a result of the storms. We have had a number of out of


state firms called about opportunities. Governor Bentley has encouraged priority
use of Alabama firms. We have referred a number of Alabama-based firms to
opportunities in the Tuscaloosa area. There will be briefing from FEMA on contract
opportunities and we will send out the dates/location as soon as we receive it.

3. Biofuels Workshop. Alabama Department of Economic & Community Affairs and


the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition will host a biofuels usage/opportunity workshop
on May 26 in Florence, AL at the Cross Point Church. To register on-line go to

4. Contract Opportunities. The Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority


announced upcoming 2011 projects which will be bid prior to the end of this fiscal
year and projected projects for 2012-2014. Contract areas include: $60 million is
expected for construction related projects, $200K will be spent for a wildlife study,
and $2.2 million for heavy electrical and mechanical work, and $150K for an ARFF
truck. Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) goals are being determined and

5. Training Partnership. The ASBCC is partnering with general contractor


FaverGray to provide Resident-Owned-Business training to public housing
residents in Talladega and Huntsville. This partnership was forged to assist the
contractor with compliance under Section 3 of the HUD Act.
