What the Christians should have argued is that they believe that societies with a basis on religion make

clear to people
their own moral concerns and provide a solid base for the propagation of a solid moral basis under the eye of a
gracious God. He will judge them on their morality during their life but he will understand the different situations and all
will be eventually happy in the afterlife after they have made up for their Earth life. Churches should be places where
people look to better theirs and others lives through the God-given morals that are inside all of us (if the fact of God-
given morals is to be assumed which for a Christian is generally a given). This 'grounding' of moral concerns allows us
all to appreciate what God has given us in our ingrained morals. This will allow people to focus on morality in their own
lives and I'm sure that this will please God much more than a subordinate population that does it because of how a
certain group interprets the Bible. I believe (or believed, Im not sure yet) that God gives us morals inside us that are
much stronger and easier to understand than that interpreted by many religions in the Bible. I find the different
interpretations make it hard to understand (and I have read the Bible myself and parts of it I have heard many times).
I see the church as a place to guide me to bring out the good that God has placed in me allowing me to be a better
citizen. I believe this is a very effective way to connect to God. I used to do this through the traditions and guidance of
my catholic church at home. The Church also helps in the trials of life through this guidance based on the grace of God
but this is a separate issue
