This document provides a concept note for a project that involves installing rice husk cogeneration systems at 11 rice mills across West Bengal and Odisha, India. The systems will generate steam and power simultaneously from rice husks for use in the mills, replacing diesel generators. It is estimated to abate over 132,000 tons of CO2-equivalent emissions annually. The project started in February 2007 and was completed by September 2008. It utilizes the approved ACM0006 methodology for calculating emission reductions from biomass power generation projects.

The projects have taken up in rice mills scattered all over the states of West Bengal and Orissa. There are about 1300 rice mills in West Bengal out of which around 300 are located in the district of Burdwan alone. Most of these rice mills are located in the rural areas of the district. The power requirement of the rice mills are mainly catered to by captive diesel generating sets. 4. Estimate of GHG abatement 132748 in tCO eq. 2
