In October 2008, the Economist Intelligence Unit published the results of an international survey of 192 senior executives on the benefits, challenges and risks associated with developing an enterprise-wide information governance strategy. The report stated that the biggest global challenge is identifying the cost/risk/return tradeoffs of managing information company-wide to gain support from department heads and line-of business managers. This global challenge is because information governance (IG) creates intangible benefits. These intangible benefits (enhanced information management, increased security, decreased risk, easier access to timely information, reduced rework and errors) typically escape identification by conventional accounting and finance methods and therefore executive typically ignore, misunderstand or do not adequately financial IG initiatives. In this workshop you will explore breakthrough new ways to: Prove the value of information governance initiatives to get CFO and CEO attention and interest Elevate your pitch of the benefits of your IG initiatives to increase support and funding for your initiatives Change the perceptions of those around you regarding the importance of information governance Explore new ways to leverage IG initiatives to accomplish organisational goals (such as cost containment and productivity improvement) Better understand how to identify and measure intangible benefits
