I was curious why as Americans we say, You are welcome after someone says Thank you it just doesnt make sense if you think about what welcome means, to drink in, embrace, etc.
Maya Hirsoux
Do we welcome those who do favors for us? Jesus teaches something about welcoming: that embracing the other, we are embracing the Christ and the God. The United Methodist Church has a tag line: Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors. How well do we at Hennepin Church? Who can best answer that question? Where in your life did you experience welcome most profoundly? What made the difference?
For some, Johns gospel is a weighty theological tome; for others it is the essence of Christianity, full of signs and glories. Each weeks study will be independent of others. People are welcome to come and go as they please. Bring a Bible! Note: no class on June 26.

Season of Pentecost
- Pride Sunday PRELUDE CHORAL INTROIT ENTRY INTO CELEBRATION We come in the name of God, to create a community in which every person is welcome. Turn to your right and say to the person nearest you: I am glad you are here. Welcome! We come in the name of the Christ, the one who walked this earth and welcomed all kinds of people especially those that were left out everywhere else. Turn to your left and say to the person nearest you: I am glad you are here. Welcome! We come in the name of the Holy Spirit, the one who gives us courage to look each other in the eye and declare that every one is a child of God. Turn to the person in front of you and say: I am glad you are here. Welcome! We come as a community of faith, grateful for the people we see around us and praying for those we do not see. Turn to the person in back of you and say: I am glad you are here. Welcome! God welcomes us all! May we welcome Christ into our midst by welcoming one another. Sonata No. 1, mvt. Gwyneth Loehr is the daughter of Michael and Andrea Grage. Neale James is the son of Michael and Andrea Grage. Peyton Charlotte is the daughter of Jeffrey Donald and Janelle Allyson Percy. We are now in the Season after Pentecost, what we often refer to as Ordinary Time and so we enter into our theme: Tending the Garden of Your Soul, recognizing that most of our tending needs to be during those ordinary times. We live most of our lives in ordinary time, dont we? And yet the miracle of our lives is anything but ordinary. It is in our every day living that we practice loving our neighbors, our selves, and our God. How do you tend to your soul? How is your garden growing? For next week, read Romans 7:15-24
CONGREGATIONAL WELCOME With God's help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ, that Gwyneth Loehr, Neale James, and Peyton Charlotte may be surrounded by steadfast love, established in the faith; and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal. PRAYER OF DEDICATION Holy One, it does not always come naturally to us to give what we have so that strangers we do not know can have enough, but we know that you call us to do just thatto recognize that we are all connected. Bless us in our giving, in our re-teaching ourselves how to be generous, so that this world will know of your love. Amen. PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE THE LORDS PRAYER Our God, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kindom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kindom, the power, and the glory forever.
