Medical Classifications

Brm Bruckmeier Publishing

Preface to the First Edition

Medical scores, criteria, and classification systems support clinical decision making and management. They enable the clinician to predict outcome, stratify risk, assess conditions, and diagnose diseases accurately. However, it is often the case that the relevant references are not at hand at the times they are needed, and looking up scores, criteria, and classifications in specialty textbooks and publications is often time consuming and, therefore, impractical. Scores & Classifications pocket is intended to be used as a daily companion for clinicians of all types. We have included the most practical scores, evidence-based criteria, and classifications to help the clinician in his or her daily routine. The classifications, criteria, and scores we have used in this book are self-explanatory. Complex algorithms were simplified whenever possible and deemed necessary. Total scores can be calculated by simply adding up the respective points. Of course, a book of this size cannot be comprehensive but we have attempted to cover all relevant specialties. We hope that you will enjoy the book and that it will support your clinical decision making and management on a daily basis.
