FUNCTIONS OF A STUDENT HEAD NURSE

1. Makes patient rounds and sees to it that all patients in the ward get the necessary care. 2. Sees to it that all equipments are in order and properly kept, and supplies available. 3. Makes weekly schedule and daily assignments of staff nurse. 4. Checks and countersigns recordings done by the staff nurse. 5. Assists the clinical instructor, prepares students assignments for their clinical experiences and assists in the evaluation of their performance. 6. Sees to it that doctors orders are carried out properly and intelligently by the staffs. 7. Plans and supervises all nursing activities in the ward. 8. Evaluates performance of her staff. 9. Coordinates ward activities in the administration of nursing service with all other hospital services. 10. Directs and supervises activities of nonprofessional workers in the ward. 11. Participates in the orientation of the staff nurses and nursing students. 12. Interprets hospital philosophy, objectives, and policies to staff, patients and their families and students. 13. Represents her ward in the nursing service meetings and other hospital meetings when necessary. 14. Acts as supervising nurse when so delegated. 15. Render direct nursing care if the unit is understaffed. 16. Supervises cleanliness and orderliness of the ward. 17. Provides or maintains adequate facilities, equipments, and supplies necessary for good patient care for the unit. 18. Provides an environment that is conducive to te physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of the patients and personnel. 19. Participates in formulating, interpreting, implementing philosophy, objectives, and policies of the nursing services. 20. Establishes, promotes and maintains good interpersonal relationships. 21. Evaluates staff nurses in the unit and gives them assignments according to their capacity. 22. Identifies nursing problems in the ward. 23. Acts as liaison between patient and members of the health care team.
