3 Astonomy110 Parallax is the angle that an object appears to move when an observer looking at the object changes position. You observe the size of the angle and knowing how far you have moved. Then you measure the apparent motion and the separation of the two vantage points. If you have a more widely separated vantage point the distance is a lot farther. If the star is bright enough for you to get a good enough look at it for six months straight using the parallax method would work. But, some stars appear at such a tremendous distance it would be such a tiny angle impossible to be recorded by the human eye. If the right equipment was used every star in the universe could be observed using parallax. It is important for astronomers to determine the distances of the stars because it is important in understanding the size of the universe. Also so they could understand if an object is farther away or just producing low energy. Or if the object is close or giving off huge amounts of gas or energy.
