We are learning:
Reading:
To build background knowledge about content in books we read. To identify words that rhyme. To write about topics we are learning about. To classify objects into given categories To use inquiry to answer a question about animals To work cooperatively with our classmates.

Your childs daily homework assignment is listed in his or her agenda each day. Please read the labels I place in there to learn more about what we are doing in class and find an activity that will extend your childs practice of important kindergarten skills. Practice worksheets are occasionally sent home but are not listed in the agenda. These are also important for your child to complete.
Monday:
We are starting our small, flexible literacy groups today. Each group today will play an alphabet game. We will read the poem Hickory Dickory Dock and use it to practice many literacy skills. Ask your child what rhyming words we found. One of our math workshop activities is to sort objects into given categorieswe sorted attribute blocks today. We have been working on an inquiry activity in science. We asked a question about worms and are working to solve it. Field trip to Louisville Nature Centerplease dress for the weather!

Have your child locate or identify letters on a cereal or other food box Read stories together your child knows 3 ways to read a book a him or sk her to tell you those three ways and then SHOW you. Ask your child to write a story after school to tell what happened during the day. Encourage illustrating a picture to go along with the text.
