Analysing Shot Types

Looking at Existing Amy Winehouse Videos

The music video begins with a mid shot of the singer. This is a performance shot. Its an unusual angle to have the camera on, but allows narrative of the video to be hinted at.

Mid shots are frequently used and are reoccurring every few seconds or so.

In these mid shots, the singer looks directly in to the camera whilst singing, as if singing to the audience or those watching

A second mid shot is used. Again, this is also on an unusual angle, but does allow the audience to establish where the singer is. This is a narrative shot. Which sets one of the locations for the music video.

An establishing shot is used. This allows the audience to see the location of the singer.

Again a mid shot is used on another unusual angle. This follows with the narrative shots.

A close up shot is used, these are not used often.

Another mid shot is used. However this is done in a narrative shot. The singer does not look directly in to the camera nor does she sing.

Some of the narrative shots used, do not necessarily show the singers face. Some shots, such as the one above, is a close up of the singers legs.
