The substantial increase in the cheating process in the college and university levels has a major problem.

A recent report confirmed the rise in cheating and also has produced a way to control this rise by introducing an honor code. This code calls for students to agree not to cheat and also notify in case cheating is reported among his/her fellow students. Groventon college has adopted this method of introducing an honor code and claim to successfully reduce the cheating levels. The claim made by them cannot be completely justified as cheating is to do with students morals and it cannot be concluded that by just asking students to promise not to cheat will result in such complete elimination of copying. The second claim made by the college authorities are that faculty members have also played a crucial role in reducing cheating. The premises on which this statement has been made cannot be justified. During an invigilation of an exam a teacher cannot give her undivided attention to all the students. And further more the claim cannot be proved as it depends on the students to faculty ratio during an examination. The honor code has proven to be beneficial as the number of reported cases of cheating has reduced from an average of twenty one cases during the first year to only fourteen cases at the end of the fifth year. The major problem with this statement is that the drop of numbers could be because children stopped reporting the cheating among their friends as they feared they getting bullied later or it might be because teaches became more reluctant towards the children. The conclusion made by the report that all the colleges and universities should adapt this honor code might be correct to an extent but with modification within the code. First change needed is that strict punishment should be set up if a student is found to be cheating. This will ensure that a fear prevails among the students and they will not get into such acts for which they will be punished. Secondly teachers should be impartial towards their students and should report acts of copying. Finally all the students should be counseled and should be taught the acts of morality and immorality. Schools are students second home and it is there where discipline and morals are taught to mold a child to become a good citizen.
