No. 5.—Infant’s Jacket.
This jacket is to be made of split zephyr or two-threaded
Saxony, for summer wear. It is knitted in the length on
coarse ateel or small bone or rubber needles, twelve inches
long.
Cast on 225 stitches, and knit across plain.
1. Slip 1, knit 2, * 0, knit 2, purl 2 together twice, knit 2,
o., knit 1; repeat from * across the row.
2. Slip 1, * purl 1, knit 2, purl 2, knit 2, purl 1; repeat
from * across the row.
These 2 rows are to be repeated 40 times up to the arm-
hole.
‘These stitches are now divided out on 3 separate needles ;
- 0 for each front, 101 for the
~: back, and bind off 12 sts,
under each arm between each
front and the back. Then knit
34 rows on each front and
back, each one separately ; then
foreach front knit 8 rows, de-
creasing on the front or neck
part two sts. each time. Then
bind off the remaining sts. for
the shoulder ; this can best be
done by placing the front and
back together on the wrong
side and bin‘ off together.

Divide the sts,on 3needles and work rouad and round 64 times.
In working the 2nd round, all the plain and oversts. are knitted
plain, and the purled éts. are purled without turning the work,
In the 4th and each 6th row, decrease on each end at the begit
ning and end ; this decrease will be in the under part of sleeve.
Decrease until there are-but 63 sts. ; then knit 12 row s on these
63 sta and bind off. Around the neck and sacque and sleeves
crochet 1 tr, 2ch.; this is the row in which the ribbon is
run,
