STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE EXTRA NEUTRAL ALCOHOL - PROCEDURE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROCUREMENT

INTRODUCTION: Prior checking and analysis of ENA is must as per ABD quality requirements. Process for quality check of ENA is as follows: The ENA produced at the source distillery should be under the supervision of ABD Chemist in accordance to ABD Standard and if the stocks are already available then the ENA sample from the offered storage tanks are to be drawn in presence by the ABD Chemist and labeled properly. All the ENA sample drawn should be evaluated as per standard procedure and selected/ approved ENA should be loaded in tanker/s. Sensory and Chemical analysis is two key characteristic of the ENA. SCOPE: Prior checking and analysis of ENA is required for maintaining the consistency of ENA quality. Sensory evaluation is used in quality assurance.

PROCEDURE: GENERAL 1. ENA should be procured from the source/ distillery identified and the source approved by ABD technical center, Aurangabad. 2. ENA lifting/ production schedule should be well planned and last minute rush should be avoided unless and until sufficient stock of approved ENA is maintained/ available at the source. No compromise on quality of ENA should be made in any case/ circumstances. 3. ABD chemist should be deputed for ENA production and selection in accordance to ABD Standards.

ENA PROCEDURE AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROCUREMENT

E N A Approval 1. The ENA sample should be drawn from top and bottom of the ENA storage tank after proper circulation/ mixing so as to have no deviation in ENA quality. Always check top and bottom sample of the storage tank offered for evaluation. 2. The Chemist should carry a standard reference/ approved sample of ENA for comparison. On finding the ENA quality meeting our quality requirements then only should be approved. Under no circumstances the ENA quality not meeting our requirements should be passed and transferred/ filled in tanker (s). 3. Prior to final approval, the test for alcoholic strength (not less than 67.2OP) and PRT (not less than 38 mins.) should be carried out by the Chemist. Maximum effort should be made to get the alcoholic strength of 68OP plus which will benefit us. 4. The Chemist should also carry approved D M water where not available. 5. The tasting of ENA should be performed using approx. 90 ml capacity goblet/ Tulip glass with lid and the sample kept for 5 to 10 mins in closed goblet before tasting. 6. The Chemist should perform the tasting of ENA in a neutral environment and no hasty decisions should be taken for approving the ENA. 7. The Chemist should maintain necessary ENA approval record for every approval. ENA Storage 1. The ENA storage tank (s) should be cleaned and earmarked for our ENA storage. 2. The approved ENA should be transferred and stored in the earmarked storage tank(s). 3. Possibly the storage tanks (s) should be locked at bottom and top. 4. The material of construction for ENA storage tank(s) should be of Mild Steel or Stainless Steel without any chemical coatings inside. ENA Issue 1. All the pipelines connected to storage, issue measures and loading point should be of GI/ SS (PVC Hose from loading point to tanker) and thoroughly cleaned and checked for any contamination. Issue measures pipeline and loading point should be for ENA only. 2. ENA sample should be checked for quality and alcoholic strength from the loading point before starting filling in tanker (s). 3. Tanker Calibration certificate issued by competent authority and validity should be checked. The calibrated dip rods should be checked for any contamination prior to dipping in compartment dipping hole for quantity measurement. 4. Prior to filing, the tankers must be thoroughly cleaned to avoid any mix up/ contamination with previous product.

5. Even if the tanker/s is received in sealed condition along with necessary cleaning certificate from the indenting unit, then also the tanker/s should be checked/ confirmed prior to filling. 6. A control reference sample of ENA from storage tank (from the tank the tanker has been loaded) and one sample from the tanker should be sealed in a bottle and sent along with the tanker/s for checking at indenting unit prior to unloading. One set of control reference should also be maintained at the loading distillery by the ABD Chemist. 7. The Quality report for ENA approval in prescribed format should be sent for each consignment dispatched to the indenting unit and a copy to Technical Center, Aurangabad. 8. After filling, the tanker(s) should be sealed properly, checked for any leakage and all the necessary papers before leaving of the tanker(s). (Note: Grain ENA used in CGV/ Class 21/ Other Grain Based ENA brands should be transported in Stainless Steel tanker). Quality Control Test: The following tests are to be performed. 1. Sensory Evaluation. 2. Alcoholic strength 3. PRT Test. 4. Acidity Test. 5. Aldehyde Test. 6. Fusel Oil Test. 7. Ester Test. Methanol Test.

ACTION STANDARD: 1. ENA approved and loaded in tanker/s conforms to the ABD standards. 2. ENA must be within analytical specification.
