Hi Leighann, I just spent some time talking to Willy about our Guidance document legal questions. Here is what we determined: 1. We cannot require the majority of the portfolio to be in English due to the rule which allows submission in Spanish or Native languages. Darn. We could say that submissions demonstrating competency in Reading must be in English. Perhaps we could phrase it along the lines of "certain submissions demonstrating competency in Reading standards must be submitted in English". Or other ideas? 2. In law we must allow up to five years after graduation to submit the portfolio. (darn) 3. It seems as though the rule allows openings for students to submit unit tests or end of year tests to demonstrate competency in standards. I'm worried about the variance and subjectivity of unit tests and end of year tests teacher to teacher. Do you think we should add something to that along the lines of "so long as tests are demonstrated to be aligned to standards" ? Let me know what you think about these questions and I will make the changes to the document and send to you and then Joyce, Thanks! Kari -"When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live your life in such a manner that when you die the world cries and you rejoice." - Navajo proverb
