CHAPTER 1 Introduction

Papers are common solid waste materials that are mainly used for writing, painting, and drawing purposes. These papers are non-biodegradable wastes. Non-Biodegradable wastes are garbages that doesnt decompose from the ground compared to biodegradable wastes, but they are recyclable. Some examples of non biodegradable waste, or papers to be specific that are commonly used inside the school are pad papers, bond papers, oslo papers, and etc.

The researchers study was conducted last October 10 to 14, 2011 and it was conducted inside the property of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong during the Math period. The first person who was involved in the researchers investigation was their math teacher, and second are the researchers of this investigation.

The researchers measure the garbages weight with the weighing scale and record the data gathered as kilograms (kgs). The researchers will record the results that they have daily so we can compute all the results to have the final computation to the investigation.

After they gather the total kilograms (kgs) of garbage that may be collected, they computed it on the weight on how many papers we can collect for two weeks, one month, and one school year. In two weeks; 115.52 (kgs) In one month; 231.04 (kgs) In one school year; 2,125.92 (kgs)

The mathematical principles we used are division, multiplication, addition, and conversion for computing the total weight of papers gathered for two weeks, one month, and one school year. We first multiplied with nineteen from the whole sections in the high school department of LSM, then we go for multiplying it by ten for the weeks, multiplied it by thirty, and multiplied one hundred ninety for one school year.

One of the researcher can say that in one year, all the sections of the high school department can collect few. The amount-of-papers collected is the one thrown inside the paper bin by the high school students of each section. These results we have from our computations tells us that per week, the amount of papers collected from the paper bin increases and somehow decreases in weight and amount.

The group conducted this investigation because the they will prove this research to the SAP about the importance of papers and its use to our environment.
