The company was incorporated on 19 October 1995, with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), the national oil company, and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the federal government investment arm, as majority shareholders. The ownership structure has since changed and as at 3rd May 2007, PETRONAS is the majority shareholders with 64.41%, while National Heritage Fund has 20% and Khazanah Nasional has a 15.59%. Putrajaya Holdings, which has an authorized capital of RM3 billion, began with a paid-up capital of RM30, 000 that has grown to RM2.2 billion as at 31 March 2005. Within three years of ground breaking, the city rose from the grounds of a former oil palm plantation to being the best planned city in the country with one common goal to lay the foundation for an attractive and modern city with a distinctive Malaysian character. The city is developed on 4, 930 hectares of land with 20 precincts divided. Upon completion, the city will have gross build up area of 7.2 million sqm of both government and commercial development. By then, the total population of the city will be approximately 500, 000 people.
