FAS3170A 32 GB

16 GB

2 GB of DIMM 4 GB of DIMM

The NVRAM7 DIMMs are compatible only with the storage systems that use them. They are incompatible with the adapters and memory for all other storage systems.

NetApp FAS3170 Disk Shelf Support

The following table lists the supported types of disk storage shelves and disk drives on the FAS3170. Caution: DiskShelf14mk2 AT must not be on the same loop as the Fibre Channel disk shelves. The FAS3170 does not support LRC modules. Note 1: All NetApp HA pair systems now require the use of MPHA cabling with just one exception. (HA pair FAS2040 configurations only have a single SAS port and as such only support single path connectivity to SAS storage shelves.) All NetApp single-controller systems are required to use dual-path connectivity with the exception of the FAS2040 using SAS storage shelves (due to the single SAS data port on the system). Note 2: You can add disk drives of the same type with different capacities within the same disk shelf. However, disk drives must be of the same type (FC, SAS, SSD, or SATA) within a single disk shelf. Storage systems using Solid-state disk (SSD) drives require at least one stack of rotating disk drives in addition to the SSD stack. For the disk shelf supporting SSD drives to function properly, a minimum of four SSD drives must be installed in the disk shelf. You can add up to four DS4243 disk shelves populated with SSD drives per storage system. Additional disk shelves of any valid type can be added, provided these disk shelves are populated with rotating disk drives.

These disk shelves are not supported for MetroCluster configurations in the Data ONTAP 8.0.1 release. This drive is supported in Data ONTAP 8.0.1 RC1 and later.

NetApp FAS3170 System Capacity

The following table lists the maximum system capacity and full system capacity supported by a FAS3170: NOTE: Full system capacity is the resulting system capacity of a storage system when populated with the maximum number of drives of a specific capacity point. This is the achievable system capacity of a storage system when using drives of a specific type and capacity point. Configuration rules common to a single FAS3170 or a FAS3170A in an HA environment

Full system capacity remains the same for storage systems that use the mirroring functionality. Full system capacity varies depending on the type, size, and number of drives, where type can be FC drives only, SATA drives only, or a mixed storage solution. A mixed storage solution is configured with one loop dedicated to disk shelves that use FC drives and another loop dedicated to disk shelves that use SATA drives. The FAS3170A capacity is the sum of the capacity of both nodes. Do not exceed this sum. This is the maximum provisioned storage limit, including when using thin provisioning. Disk drive capacity listed is the largest shipping disk drive supported on the date of the last update to this page.

NetApp FAS3170 Expansion Slot Assignments

The FAS3170 has two onboard 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T copper interfaces and four auto-sensing 4/2/1-GB loop speed onboard optical Fibre Channel interfaces that can function as initiator-mode interfaces or FCP target-mode interfaces. It also has an internal slot for the required Remote LAN Module (RLM - PN: X3304R5). A FAS3170 in a high-availability (HA) pair has a total of four onboard 10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T copper interfaces and eight auto-sensing 4/2/1-GB loop speed onboard optical Fibre Channel interfaces that can function as initiator-mode interfaces or FCP target-mode interfaces, and two Remote LAN Modules. The following table lists the types and part numbers of the optional expansion adapters that you can install in the four expansion slots that are available in the FAS3170 system module or in each system module of the FAS3170A. Note: The following table lists the recommended top to bottom load order for adapters into storage systems.

Source and destination systems do not need to have the same SnapMirror over Fibre Channel (SMoFC) card type. While only the X1124 is supported on this platform, if the source or destination controller is a different platform supporting X1024, X1124, or X1142 SMoFC cards those may be used for connecting to the X1124 on this platform. This adapter cannot be used in a Fabric MetroCluster configuration. However, it can be used in a Stretch MetroCluster configuration. This adapter is supported in Data ONTAP 8.0 RC3 and later. PAM I and Flash Cache modules are not supported together in the same chassis. This adapter requires the SFP+ PN X6563-R6 or a twinax cable for connectivity. Flash Cache was previously known as PAM II. Total Flash Cache may not exceed 1.0 TB. Cannot coexist with PAM I.

Revision B1 of this adapter is not supported in slot 4; the maximum number of revision B1 adapters allowed is 3.
