Simile Lesson Reflection This was the first lesson I taught with my fifth graders and I was feeling

a bit nervous because I was not planned to teach that day. It was a spur of the moment thing because the day I was supposed to teach my cooperating teacher was absent. Aside from that I felt the overall lesson went well. The students appeared to be interested in the book I read them and by the end of the lesson understood what a simile was, how to find one in a book and how to incorporate them into their writing. I do know that if I were to teach this lesson again there are a few things I would do differently. During the reading mini lesson I had students use their just write books to look for similes; what I realized was that there was no way to determine whether each student would find a simile in their story and unfortunately most of them did not. Next time I would give the students a passage from a piece of literature that contained similes. This way I know each student will find similes.
