3.1LUNAR RUBBERS PVT LTD In 1982, Lunar Rubbers was initially registered as a small scale industry. The unit was later converted into a private limited company in1993-The Lunar Rubbers private Limited. History of the company begins even before, in 1975 when a Hawaii manufacturing unit was set up in the Industrial estate at Thodupuzha in the district of Idukki, Kerala state, India. This initiative from a young entrepreneurial genius led towards the triumph of a quality foot wear brand, Lunar's. The company is certified with ISO 9001-2000 since the year 2004. Quality, Durability, stylishness, and cost effectiveness worked as the key factors generating consumer demand for Lunar's footwears. Nothing but strict adherence to quality and the keenness to update and adapt to the changes of time contributed for an impressive growth in business. Untainted quality has been the prime slogan and concern for the company right from the beginning. The company strictly follows a multi-tire checking system to ensure quality and attribute maximum perfection on each pair produced. Lunar's owns a fully fledged Research and Development wing focused on introducing new designs as well as upgrading the existing models. Readiness to learn and the ability to sense the wavering trends in the market and consumers interests are the obvious strengths of this core group. Agile and active R&D wing helps the company to be a stride ahead of others in the market. Product diversification was a major leap forward by the brand. Lunar's umbrellas were introduced in 2001.The Lunar's umbrella, catering to all segments of the society is now a houses hold name in Kerala.

Lunar school bag and school shoes are two proven products enjoying wide demand. The popular footwear brands from the Lunars stable are Deluxe Hawai, Aerolux (PVC- Poly vinyl Chloride), Lunar Lite (EVA- Ethylene vinyl Acetate) and Walkmate (Poly Urethane). Forward integration into leather chapels and shoes, stuck on variants, handmade chapels etc are progressing at hectic speed. The company is well poised to be a National Brand by the year 2012.

Inroads into the markets of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa are already on and soon the product will spread to North India. The company maintains healthy overseas trade too, now touching almost 20% of the total turnover. Exports are mainly to the Middle East followed by Europe and Africa. The Lunar group has production centers across south India at Thodupuzha (Kerala), Mundakayam (Kerala), Coimbatore (Tamilnadu) and Mysore (Karnataka).
