Leadership Style Authoritarian or Autocratic

Description and Definition Authoritarian leadership is a style that a leader dictates policies and procedures. Decides the goals that have priority. Also directs and controls all activities without any meaningful participation by the members of the team. Democratic leadership gives the people a more participatory role in the decision making process. One person retains the final decision over all options but allows others to share insight and opinions.

French for, allow to pass or let go. Leaders try to give least possible guidance to employees. Try to gain control through less obvious means. They believe that people succeed best when they are left alone to respond to their responsibilities and obligations in their own ways.

Bureaucratic

Controls the flow of information. Attempt to solve problems by adding layers of control over the team. Use historical methods regardless of the effect that is inflicted in a changing environment.

People orientated

Encourages cooperation. Is a good team player, quite happily get involved with the work or activities. Acts as a chairperson. They are co-ordinators; basically take the traditional team leader role. Supportive of all team members.

Task orientated

They plan, organize, and monitor. Focus purely on getting the job done. Dont think about the well being of their team, therefore can cause complications. They can be quite autocratic.
