PRESENTACION El bambi, recurso natural de muchos paises y usado en infinidad de formas y maneras, tiene fortalezas y debilidades como corresponde a todo material onginico, Entre éstas tiltimas, estén las posibilidades de infestacién por insectos, hongos, bacterias y otros agentes bidticos, lo que demanda ineludible aplicacién de métodos de preservacién y secado, para prolongar la vide titil del material De manera general hay dos grupos de métodos para la preservacién y secado: + Los que usan componentes quimicos con equipos simples 0 complejos, ya sean a nivel artesanal o industrial y, + Los que se guian por conocimientos tradicionales de grupos étnicos o campesinos, basados en la sabiduria popular que otorga la experiencia del tiempo. Este documento, se orienta al segundo grupo de métodos de preservacién. Se recogen en él, una serie de experiencias desarrolladas en América, todas de raigambre y en popular, y_respalda aquellas con testimonios de reconocidos autores 0 especialistas en el tema, exponiendo hipétesis que justifican los métodos expresados.
