ABLAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Laoag City A Demonstration Lesson Plan in Science and Health Grade VI-C I. Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to: 1. Observe and describe relationships of organisms in an ecosystem. 2. Identify biotic and abiotic things in an ecosystem. 3. Participate actively in the discussion. II. Subject Matter: Other Relationships in the Ecosystems, Into the Future Science and Health 6 pp. 60-61, Science and Me pp. 74-75 Science Concepts/Ideas The different relationships existing between living organisms are Mutualism, Commensalism, Parasitism, Competition and Predation Values Focus: Love and Care for the Environment Science Processes: Observing, Inferring, Identifying III. Procedure/Strategies A. Review What is a food chain? What is being transferred in a food chain? B. 1. Motivation Show pictures of plants and animals and the Ecosystem. Can man live without plants and animals? Can plants live without man and animals? 2. Presentation Observe the place where you live in. What are the living organisms found in it? plants, animals Are there non-living things found in the community? What are they? water, soil, air Does each one affect the life of the other? 3. Lesson Proper: Using a concept map of an Ecosystem identify its components. In an ecosystem organisms interact with one another and this interaction results in the different kinds of relationships. 4. Discussion/Analysis Plants and animals live together in a place and inorder to survive these organisms must have enough food, water and shelter and be able to reproduce and increase in number. There are different relationships existing among organisms in a community inorder to survive such as: 1. Mutualism 4. Parasitism 2. Commensalism 5. Competition 3. Predation 6. Cooperation What is Mutualism? Commensalism? Predation? 5. Concept Formation/Generalization What are the different types of relationships existing among organism in the ecosystem?

6. Application: The class will be divided into groups where in each group will discuss one relationship and be able to give example. IV. Evaluation Identify whether the following relationships are Mutualism, Commensalism, Parasitism, Predation, Competition and Cooperation. ____________ 1. ____________ 2. ____________ 3. ____________ 4. ____________ 5. Orchids grow on branches of trees but do not harm the tree. A kingfisher dives into the pond to catch fish for food. Ticks suck blood on the skin of man. Spiders build their webs on plants. Animals give off carbon dioxide that plants use in photosynthesis. Plants release oxygen that animals need for respiration. ____________ 6. Bangus and tilapia feed on the same algae in a pond. ____________ 7. Ant gathering food for their colony. ____________ 8. Birds build their nests on branches of trees but do not harm the trees. ____________ 9. Cows and goats eat the same kind of grass in a field. ____________10. Two different plants occupying the same space or soil. V. Make an album of the different relationships between organisms. Prepared by: ELENA L.
