Q1. Using the equilibrium constants for argon and oxygen, determine the equilibrium vapour and liquid compositions for a mixture of these two components at a pressure of 0.506 MPa and a temperature of 108 K. Q2. Determine the mole fraction of nitrogen in the liquid phase and the vapour-liquid split when a 50% nitrogen-50% oxygen mixture by volume is cooled to 105 K at a pressure of 0.506 MPa using the equilibrium constants for nitrogen and oxygen. Q3. Will air at 0.152 MPa condense when it is in contact with uninsulated transfer line carrying liquid oxygen at 90 K? If the fluid in the uninsulated transfer line is liquid nitrogen flowing at 77 K, will condensation on the line occur? In either case, what will be the composition of the liquid condensing on the outside of the line? (HINT: Take air as a binary mixture of nitrogen and oxygen, find one of dew and bubble points!) Q4. Determine the mole fraction of water vapor at the surface of a lake at 15 oC using Raoults law. State the assumptions to be made to apply this law. Take the atmospheric pressure at the lake level to be 92 kPa. Q5. Find the dew point and bubble point temperatures of a Ar-N2 mixture with 65% N2 at 5 atm by: (a) Applying Raoults law, and (b) K-method. Comment on the results from these two methods. Q6. A saturated vapor mixture at 5 atm consists of N2, O2 and Ar. Mole fractions of O2 and Ar are 0.250 and 0.05 respectively. Determine the temperature of the vapor. [Use distribution coefficients.] Is the temperature dew point or bubble point? Justify.
