After watching the film A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, there were many peculiar

things that stood out despite my previous knowledge of ancient Roman customs. Firstly, the amount of slaves a family had was different than I imagined; as in the film, Heros family had slaves for almost everything. Also, I never knew that the rich were carried around in carriages, supported by the slaves. Pseudolus upfront actions in face of his masters was also very surprising, despite him being a slave. Secondly, in terms of makeup, Dominas face surprised me as it appeared as if it was rubbed on with chalk; which may or may not have been a beauty item in ancient times. Lastly, despite my view of ancient Rome being a male dominated society, Senexs wife Domina seemed to be in control of the family. This surprised me due to the fact that in reality, she would have little to no rights, yet still maintained herself as an authoritative figure in the household.
