#1 - THE PARTS OF A VERB


A verb may consist of one word or of several words. The verb may be composed of a main verb and one or more helping verbs. To name the verb in a sentence, you must name all parts of the verb. HELPING VERBS will is may be + MAIN VERB = VERB arrive will arrive planning is planning working may be working

The words that make up a verb are sometimes separated by words that are not verbs. In the sentences below, the parts of the verb are underlined. The club has always met on Tuesdays. Jill will probably be elected president this year. The word not and the contraction nt are never parts of the verb. Our guests havent arrived yet. (Have arrived is the verb). FIND THE VERBS.
