ASSIGNMENT
SUBJECT: PROPERTIES PRACTICE 2 MODULE: STATIC TUTOR: Todd Arthur ASSIGNMENT TITLE: Large sculpture. DUE DATE: THURSDAY 5th APRIL 2012 Assignment Objective:
Students are to create a large, finished sculpture of a creature from polystyrene that is consistent in aesthetics with one of the following two contexts; Museum / Scientific display sculpture, Architectural reproduction This finishes used on each of these areas shall reflect this context, e.g. sandstone for a gargoyle, biologically correct textures and tones for a museum sculpture. An element of patina shall be displayed in all finishes.

Outcomes:
a) Intermediate craft, technical and presentation skills. d) Extended research methodologies related to the creation of properties. f) Broadened knowledge of suitable materials, tools and techniques in order to satisfy the aesthetic, structural and mechanical requirements particular to the specifications of the design concept and the demands of performance. g) Understanding and application of the principals of Occupational Health and Safety and other requirements related to project and production work.

Guidelines / Constraints:
Students will develop a research portfolio that reflects the path followed in determining the final composition of the sculpture presented. This folio will include reference imagery, pictures and sketches. Students will present a scale maquette, draft production schedule, and budget for the completion of the project, accompanied by the relevant MSDS and materials list. 1100 hrs Thursday 16. 02. 2012. Sculptures will be completed using no more than 2m3 of Polystyrene. Works are to be self-supporting. Works shall be removable from props two, requiring no more than two people to move them. Students will have a budget of $500 for the completion of the project.

Please note, only complete work will be accepted for assessment. Overall marks will be deducted at 5 marks per day for work submitted after due date without prior approval of extension. After 10 days the student will be awarded a fail for the module, what marks can be awarded will be however the student will be credited with a penalty of 50 marks withdrawn from any marks that can be awarded at this time.
