Kevorkian helps his readers understand that euthanasia is a way to relieve people who are suffering. When Janet Adkins discovers she has Alzheimers and how severe it is, according to Kevorkian, she decided she would not live to experience the horror of such a death (318), so she goes to Kevorkian to assist her in suicide. Kevorkian does not spontaneously help her die; instead, he interviews her and speaks to her doctors to diagnose how serious her Alzheimers has become. Anytime Kevorkian performs euthanasia he makes certain the patient is one hundred percent positive he or she wants it to happen. He has Janet interviewed on tape and even has her and her husband sign a consent form. In the end, Janet is the one who flips the switch; Kevorkian says she hit the Mercitrons switch with the outer edge of her palm (323). When people read Kevorkians story, they understand that euthanasia is a way to help people who are in misery. Word Count 187
