Notes to Parents: * Do not expect that your child will know or should know all of the answers to this practice worksheet. The overwhelming majority of children will not have mastered many of these skills by the time they enter Kindergarten. * This worksheet helps children to practice skills that are often measured on standardized tests or screens given by school districts before children start school. School districts use screening inventories for a variety of reasons (e.g. to determine Kindergarten "readiness"; to place children in classes or groups based on ability; to develop class rosters of children with equally diverse skill sets; to assess for early indicators of both "developmental delays" and "giftedness"; to determine whether summer school or Junior Kindergarten may be necessary, etc.). Standardized measures which include assessments of similar concepts to those targeted on this worksheet include: DIAL-R (Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning - Revised); Brigance (Brigance K&1 Screen); Daberon (Daberon Screening for School Readiness); KIDS (Missouri Kindergarten Inventory of Developmental Skills); and many others.
