ART FIERRO DECIDES NOT TO RUN FOR HOUSE DISTRICT 75 Art Fierro announced today that he will not seek the seat of Texas House of Representatives District 75, a seat currently held by Rep. Inocente Chente Quintanilla. Fierro filed for the seat on December 10, 2011 at a time when interim maps and the election terms were still undetermined in the midst of Texas redistricting litigation pending in federal court. Prior to redistricting, Fierro lived in District 75. The interim maps adopted by the federal court last week confirm that Fierro will no longer live in District 75. Nor did the federal court provide a waiver or extension of the residency requirements beyond the general election in November, as Fierro had hoped. My family has prepared to move twice since December during the time of uncertainty caused by the redistricting litigation. At this point, it has become difficult for my family to sacrifice the expense and time to move back into the District. I am greatly disappointed that I will not have the opportunity to represent District 75, which has been our home for over a decade, said Fierro. Fierro currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for El Paso Community College. I want to thank all my supporters, both here and in Austin. But I will certainly look forward to my continued work at EPCC, Fierro added.
