Serve as a mentor/teacher for English Language Learners in Orangeburg Consolidated School District 5 (Rivelon Elementary School from 2009-2010 and Mellichamp Elementary School beginning September 2011). Work with ELL students weekly in order to help assure their acquisition of the English language so that they may function in mainstream classrooms. Made presentations based on my experience in the program at conferences including the Carolina TESOL Conference in Hilton Head, SC (November 2010) and Asheville, NC (November 2011). CHARLESTON TEACHER QUALITY SYMPOSIUM CHARLESTON , SC Professional Development/Conference Presenter J UNE 8-9, 2011 Presented at conference with Dr. Charlease Kelly-Jackson, Professor on the topic of Culturally Relevant Teaching as a Best Practice in Science upon the completion of her course which was taken during the spring semester. Conference showcased effective teachers and leaders from across the nation and from right in the Lowcountry. The three strands of professional learning at the conference included Effective Teaching, Transformative Leadership, and Holistic Well-Being, representing essential ingredients for students success. WCS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE, BRONX ZOO B RONX , NY Summer Intern M AY-J ULY 2010 Studied conservation biology and learned how to incorporate science into the elementary school curriculum through utilization of the zoos world-class exhibits. From May 25, 2010 until June 22, 2010- completed Course 1-online-course Conservation Biology for Educators Beyond the Campus. Bronx Zoo Sessions held on June 28th and 29th, 2010. June 21-26, 2010 completed Course 2: Teaching Environmental Science across the Disciplines at the Bronx Zoo- used the zoo to enhance learning within and beyond the classroom.
