    To work in Thailand, foreigners must first obtain a work permit from their prospective employer which is then submitted to the Department of Employment along with applying for a non-immigrant visa at a Thai embassy. Upon arrival in Thailand, a 90-day stay permit is granted which can then be extended up to 1 year by applying for an extension of stay permit from immigration, and includes applying for re-entry and work permit extensions as needed from the Department of Employment and Immigration Bureau.

    Standard Process for foreigners who wish to work in Thailand

    Having prospective employer in Thailand and all necessary documents

    Employer may apply for work permit in advance at Department of Employment

    Apply for Non-Immigrant B Visa, Single Entry at Thai Embassies/Consulates (must use the visa within 3 months)

    1-3 days www.mfa.go.th

    at Immigration Checkpoint : Granted initial 90-day stay permit


    7 days www.doe.go.th/workpermit

    Apply for temporary Work Permit at Department of Employment

    Apply for Extension of Stay Permit at Immigration Bureau (up to 1 year each time)

    30 days www.immigration.go.th

    Apply for Re-entry Permit


    (for eligibility to re-enter Thailand with the granted employment status)

    at Immigration Bureau or at the airport before departure
