1st-7th Grade Non-Contact Rugby

As the nations leading nonprofit for youth development and healthy living, the Y provides kids, families and communities with vital support and opportunities to learn, connect and thrive. Non-Contact Rugby is played by 4.4 million people in over 100 countries across 6 continents and is gaining popularity all over the world. In Iowa, the Iowa High School Rugby Association has been growing as well. They will be an active part in much of this program. Ages Leagues are gender split and will be divided in the following grade level(in Fall 2012) divisions: 1st-2nd grades, 3rd-4th grades, 5th-6th grades, 7th grade Boys/Girls When/Where Monday, June 11th and Saturday, June 16th will be FREE TRIAL days Practices and Games will be held Monday evenings(b/w 6-8pm) OR Saturday mornings(b/w 9-11am) Mondays: June 25th August 6th*(6 weeks)

*No games July 2nd due to Holiday


Saturdays: June 30th August 11th(6 weeks)

*No games July 7th due to Holiday


All practices and games will be held at the Waukee Family YMCA. Registration Information Registration begins April 1st and may be done online, at the Welcome Center or by calling 987-9996. The registration deadline is June 17th, 2012. Rates FREE Monday, June 11th and/or Saturday, June 16th for trial days $35 Member/$65 Non-member $15 All Sports Jersey(Required to participate during program) Additional Info: Come out Monday, June 11th and/or Saturday, June 16th for a FREE TRIAL of our New Rugby Program! If you like what you see and your child is interested in participating this summer, then you will be able to register immediately following the practice. For those that register, this program will consist of 2 practices with drills and skills to learn the game of Rugby as well as full games the last 4 weeks. Practices will be taught by professional and amateur Rugby players and coaches from the Iowa High School Rugby Association, Volunteer Y Coaches and Y staff. Games will be officiated by Iowa High School Rugby Assoc. players and coaches along with Y staff. This program will give all participants the opportunity to learn a new sport and stay active this summer. This can also be a great off-season plan for Football players as the fundamentals remain the same. Equipment will be provided and all players will receive a mouthpiece. Please bring your own water bottle.
NOTE: Even though this may be a brand new sport to most of you, we are confident volunteers will be the backbone of this program like all other YMCA Youth Sports programs. We will have an extensive coaches training as well as many online resources that will be available for help in understanding the sport and rules.
