ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It has been rightly quoted that each milestone turned over, is an outcome of mans sincere endeavors. Though, at the start of any ambitious project, one always encounters certain difficulties. However, overcoming those difficulties, completing the project as well as making it a success, greatly depends on the encouragement, inspiration and help given by many people. We too, without the encouragement, inspiration and by taking help of others, would not have been able to complete our research project, successfully. This research project was a great source of learning and a good experience as it gives us an opportunity to correlate the theoretical knowledge which we had gained from our teachers and well wishers, with practical facts and aspects. Though fulfilling the ambitions one always encounters with certain difficulties, however overcoming these difficulties and making the project a success entirely depends upon the encouragements, inspirations and help rendered by the staff members of the organization. All that what we gain through this research project is just because of Dr. Lokesh Jindal, who had given us a chance to express our creative ideas in front of all in the shape of this research project. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to him for his valuable assistance and for his frothier valuable suggestions that have greatly improved the quality of the research project and helping us to complete the project to the satisfaction of all. He had given us full liberty to do this research and guided us from the initial stage till completion of project with his whole hearted involvement and guidance.

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Investment is nothing but the saving of an individual, which is remind after satisfying day-to-day necessity. He invests it somewhere to earn some returns on the saving. The investors has many choices to invest his money e.g. Saving Deposit, Fixed Deposit, Insurance Policy, Company Deposits, Capital Market, Properties and many other among all the option he have to choose one or two to invest his money and take care of not loosing the money in whatever he invest. It is not possible to study all the ingredients/options in such a short span of 45 days. Therefore I have chosen the customers perception to study as the title given is CUSTOMERS PERCEPTION TOWARDS EQUITY TRADING. Moreover, reason behind choosing DATABASE INVESTMENT SERVICES (I)LIMITED for doing the project because it is purely a broking firm whole time engaged in the stock markets operation. In addition, it has number of customers in Delhi. The project work is carried out for 45 days and I have worked as full time management trainee in Delhi. I have visited number of new investors who want to invest the market, the questionnaire, and formal meeting and normal decision with the clients helped me for collecting valuable information for the study of market and investors. It is also useful for me to reach to the conclusion of the project. Most of them are in the age bracket of 30 40 years, I think this age group people are very enthusiastic to do anything and want to achieve things in shorter span of time.

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

Therefore they attracted towards stock market. Because of volatile stock market gives higher return as well as losses to the investors.

The end result I found after doing the whole exercise is that the investors expectations are very high they want more returns from short and small investment.

CHAPTER -1 INTRODUCTION

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

1.1 PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The objective which leads me to do this report was my strong desire to know about the equity trading. Second, i want to explore that what is the customers perception towards equity trading. How they are influenced by this. It would be helpful to take stock of the prevailing trend of the investor public in any city.

The question that came into my mind at that time was from where will i learn all this and the answer which i got for this question was in the form of my project title. Since this is been a good opportunity for me so, I decided to take up this project.

1.2 RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

The objective of this study is to understand the conditions prevailing among the investing public. Considering the cost involved, time factor and lack of awareness of efficient data gathering techniques and tools for analysis, all the online-share trading public may not be covered. It may not be possible to arrive at the exact value of the findings.

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

Tools used for Analysis: The tool employed here is Percentage Analysis. The total of the data collected under one factor are summed up and their percentage is calculated. Suppose we consider 10 factors with 5 attributes for each factor. Each attribute is given ranks. The values are added and the percentage for each attribute is calculated. These values are used for analysis. This is Percentage Analysis.

1.3 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Research is a systematic search for pertinent information on a specific topic. Research is an art of scientific investigation. According to Clifford Woody, Research comprises defining and re-defining the problem, formulating hypothesis or suggesting solution, collecting, collecting, organizing and evaluating data; making deductions and reaching conclusions; and at last carefully testing the conclusions to determine whether they fit the formulated hypothesis.

1.3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN:

A Research design is an arrangement of conduction for collection and analysis of data in a manner that aims to combine relevant to a research purpose with economy in procedure. The research designs adopted for the study are analytical in nature.

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

1.3.2 DATA COLLECTION:

Data used for research work was mainly derived through primary sources but secondary data has also been used as regards profile of the company, board of directors etc.

1.3.3 RESEARCH DESIGN: 1.3.3.1 POPULATION:

A population is all the organisms that both belong to the same species and live in the same geographical area. The area that is used to define the population is such that inter-breeding is possible between any pair within the area and more probable than cross-breeding with individuals from other areas. Normally breeding is substantially more common within the area than across the border.

1.3.3.2 SAMPLE SIZE:

Personal interviews were taken from 10 people working in database investment services and survey was conducted through 60 people dealing in broking firms.

1.3.3.3 SAMPLING TECHNIQUES:

Random sampling techniques and methods were used during the surveys. People related to and dealing in broking firms who were surveyed were chosen at random.

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

1.3.4 METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION: Primary methods

(a) Observational methods: Observation is away to look at the things, as they exist. It involves the use of various senses and drawing meanings to the things we see or hear. There are a number of things that can be observed by an evaluation. These may be classified under the following categories Meetings, discussion and other transactions with the Relationship

Managers of various firms. Forms and formats, reports, manuals etc provided by the firms.

(b) Interview methods: Interview method is quick and adequate for comprehensive collection of information. Interviewing the various executives can give considerable data about the services provided, brokerage charged etc by the various firms in which they are working. The main advantage of the interviews is its capacity to capture the primary concern of the people under study. Interview makes the assessment dynamic. In this research, various interviews were taken from the people presented in relainace money and from the people of broking firms.

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

(c) Questionnaire method: The critical scientific study lies in framing the questions rather than in finding the answers. Thus to reach the correct perspective, it is imperative to go through the right way. A questionnaire was prepared in which almost all the parameters regarding the Products Brokerage Services Website: Ease of use Pace of transaction execution Trading Terminal facility Tie up with bank Branch network Customer service were formulated. The purpose of preparing a questionnaire was to collect concrete information, which may give the best possible results to fulfil my objective of the report.

Secondary methods
Analysis of secondary data can give a lot of insights into the detailed understanding of the topic i.e. published literature of the company such as annual report, marked handouts issued also provided valuable information

NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

1.3.4.1 INSTRUMENT FOR DATA COLLECTION:

Personal interviews and surveys through Questionnaires were conducted to collect the data.

1.3.5 LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT: It is very difficult to implement ones knowledge on small pieces of paper, still I have tried to come at par the expectations of different set of people. By working on this project, I gained a lot of knowledge about the financial avenues in INDIA. However, there were many limitations or problems that I faced while working on this project. The following are the limitations: The area of operation was limited to the national capital and NCR only Most of the contents / data I collected were difficult to understand because they were new for me. The time period was limited in terms of both data collection and report formation. Finance instruments are more creative and innovative Products and its usage and study is not easy to gain in one go. Convincing the people to invest in a new product that affect their lives was a tough job. The answers of the customers could have been biased Lack of awareness among the customers force them to take an irrational decision in number of time.

THEORY OF SHARE MARKET

STOCK EXCHANGE:- A common platform where buyers and sellers
come together to transact in stocks and shares. It may be a physical entity where brokers trade on a physical trading floor via an "open outcry" system or a virtual environment.

ELECTRONIC TRADING:- Electronic trading eliminates the need for

physical trading floors. Brokers can trade from their offices, using fully automated screen-based processes. Their workstations are connected to a Stock Exchange's central computer via satellite using Very Small Aperture Terminus (VSATs). The orders placed by brokers reach the Exchange's central computer and are matched electronically.

STOCK EXCHANGES IN INDIA:- The Stock Exchange, Mumbai

(BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are the country's two leading Exchanges. There are 20 other regional Exchanges, connected via the InterConnected Stock Exchange (ICSE). The BSE and NSE allow nationwide trading via their VSAT systems.

INDEX:- An Index is a comprehensive measure of market trends, intended for

investors who are concerned with general stock market price movements. An Index comprises stocks that have large liquidity and market capitalisation. Each stock is given a weightage in the Index equivalent to its market capitalisation. At
NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

the NSE, the capitalisation of NIFTY (fifty selected stocks) is taken as a base capitalisation, with the value set at 1000. Similarly, BSE Sensitive Index or Sensex comprises 30 selected stocks. The Index value compares the day's market capitalisation vis-a-vis base capitalisation and indicates how prices in general have moved over a period of time.

STOCK:- The word stock simply refers to a supply. You may have a stock of
T- shirts in your closet, or a stock of pencils in your desk. In the financial market, stock refers to a supply of money that a company has raised. This supply comes from people who have given the company money in the hope that the company will make their money grow.

A MARKET is a public place where things are bought and sold. The term "stock market" refers to the business of buying and selling stock. The stock market is not a specific place, though some people use the term "Wall Street" the main street in New York City's financial districtto refer to the U.S. stock market in general.

Why Companies issue stock:- If a company wants to growmaybe build

more factories, hire more people, or develop new productsit needs money. It could get a loan from a bank. But then it would owe money. By issuing stock, a

company can raise money without going into debt. People who buy the stock are giving the company the money it needs to grow. Not every company can issue stock. A business owned by one person (a proprietorship) or a few people (a partnership) cannot issue stock. Only a
NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

business corporation can issue stock. A corporation has a special legal status. Like a school, its existence does not depend on the people who run it. Under the law it is separate from the people associated with it, and has special legal rights and responsibilities as well as its own unique name.

Why People Buy it:- Owning stock in a company means owning part of that
company. Each part is known as a share. If a company has issued 100 shares of stock, and you bought one, you own 1% of that company. People who own stock are called stockholders, or shareholders. Stockholders hope the company will earn money as it grows. If a company earns money, the stockholders share the profits. Over time, people usually earn more from owning stock than from leaving money in the bank, buying bonds, or making other investments.

Funny fractions:- In April 2002, all stock exchanges in the U.S. began
trading their stocks in dollars and cents. For instance, the price of a particular stock might go up $1.10. This means that the price of a stock increased $1.10 over its previous price. If a share of stock had been worth $10, it would now be worth $11.10. This is different from the earlier system, when stocks were traded in fractions based on 1/8th. If a stock worth $10 went up 1 and 5/8ths, it meant that the stock

had risen $1 plus 5/8ths of a dollar in price, or a total of $1.62. In other words, if each share had been worth $10 previously, it would now be worth $11.62. But why divide each dollar into eighths when it could simply be divided into hundredthsa hundred pennies, to be exact? It's because the U.S. dollar is a relatively new kind of currency. When the stock market opened at the end of the
NIKITA GUPTA BBA(B&I) V SEMESTER (BATCH: 2008-2011) ENROLLMENT NO. : 0931471808

eighteenth century, prices were based on the Spanish dollar, which is divided into eighths.

BEARS AND BULLS:Bears are cautious animals who don't like to move too fast. Bulls are bold animals who might charge right ahead. An investor is said to be "bearish" if he or she believes the stock market will go down. A "bearish" investor will buy stock cautiously. A "bullish" investor believes the market will go up. He or she will charge ahead and put more money into the market. An investor can be bearish or bullish about a particular kind of stock. Likewise, the term "bear market" describes a time when stock prices have been falling on the whole. A "bull market" is a period when stock prices are generally rising

Married men and women have found on-line share trading as a source for extra income. Friends have been the major inducing factor towards equity trading. Most of the respondents access the internet at the stock brokers office and they access it on all business days. CONCLUSIONS:

The purpose of this study is well achieved. The day is not far when there would be free internet access in this city. Its delightful to note that the investors are eager to be updated about the market situation. Considering the ongoing trend in Delhi, the infrastructure for on-line share trading will improve in the city and there would be hike in volume of share trading.

LIMITATIONS OF THE PROJECT:

It is very difficult to implement ones knowledge on small pieces of paper, still I have tried to come at par the expectations of different set of people. The answers of the customers could have been biased

Lack of awareness among the customers force them to take an irrational decision in number of time.
