Date:03/03/12 Suitable materials and processes: All types of woods except very soft woods e.g. balsa wood. No plastics or metals. Timber should be rounded as much as possible before used on the lathe. Do not use wood with cracks, splits and large knots.

Common Problems: If the tool is not held at the right angle it can be knocked back into the user. If wood is not secured properly it could fall out. Only sharp tools should be used.

Common Misconceptions: If the tool rest is not at the right height it could become dangerous.

I have used this machine to: Turn a piece of pine to make beads, using varied tools.
