About Bethune-Bowman Elementary

Located in the small town of Rowesville, South Carolina, Bethune-Bowman Elementary School is the newest edition to Orangeburg Consolidated School District Five. Erected in 2004, this wonderful institution of learning is a part of a school that was built for grades K-12. All in one building, BethuneBowman Elementary is housed right along with Bethune-Bowman Middle High. The cafeteria and library separate the two.

About Bethune-Bowman Elementary

Under the direction of Dr. Charlene Stokes, all faculty and staff at Bethune-Bowman Elementary School share the philosophy that all children can learn and succeed in an environment that treasures their contributions and encourages learning at many levels. The mission statement declares that BethuneBowman Elementary School exists to provide excellence in teaching and learning. Recognized over the past few years for meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP), Bethune-Bowman Elementary has a school rating of Average, which means the schools performance meets the standards for progress towards the 2020 SC Performance Vision (By 2020 all students will graduate with the knowledge and skills necessary in The name of my 4th/5th Grade Corridor the global economy, participate in a democratic

School Demographics
At Bethune-Bowman Elementary School there is a total of approximately 348 students enrolled in grades K-5 and 22 teachers employed. The student-teacher ratio in core subjects is 24.6 to 1. This year is the principals 5th year the school.

The Classroom Environment classroom on the Fortunate to have the largest

3rd/4th/5th corridor, Ms. Jeffords science classroom is an actual science lab. With enough room to maneuver and manage over 100 students daily, Ms. Jeffords has student desks arranged in clusters that promote cooperative learning/group work. Located at the very end of the hall, Ms. Jeffords classroom is in Classroom/Student Desk very good condition.

Located at the very end of the hall, Ms. Jeffords classroom is in very good condition being that the school is only seven years old. Ms. Jeffords has made her learning environment a welcoming one with such additions such as large area rugs at both the front and back of the room, inflatable sea animals that hang from the ceiling, and a comfy reading area overflowing with leveled texts and Accelerated Reader books.

On the wall above the computer area, Ms. Jeffords has created a colorful science word-wall. To the side of the white board, the curriculum standards are always displayed, along with other important factors of the days lesson. These factors are written on the board in the form of an agenda that students refer to throughout the instructional period.

Display of Student Work


Student work is displayed on a bulletin board in the back of the room (pictured below). She has titled the board Sunlit Students. On display throughout different areas of the classroom are also some of the best science fair projects that did not place in the past science fair. A very organized individual, Ms. Jeffordss classroom is a very neat and organized space for teaching. Everything has a place for there is a numerous amount of storage space.
