2012 Monday Level: Intermediate and above Topic: Social Issues-Tuition Courses (Argumentative Writing) Skills focus: Writing Language content: Adverbs Previous knowledge: Students have been reinforced on the structure of an argumentative text in the previous lesson. They seemed to understand the structure but still lack the ability to elaborate the points they have. Curriculum Specifications : 2.3 present information to different audiences by: j) using appropriate format of adverbs, when presenting information.

General objectives: Upon successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to: Produce sentences with suitable adverbs, while writing argumentative essay.

Specific objectives: Upon successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to: Write out an argumentative paragraph based on task given, included new adverbs.

Teacher will distribute handout to each students.

Before further introduction, students need brainstorming in order to engage the topic with their own life.

Students are told to read through the handout.

Teacher will ask students to tick on the statements that they are agreed or disagree and state a example under the statements.

Teacher will give second handouts to students.(Handouts consist the possible adverbs with their meanings, that can be used to express ideas while writing Argumentative Essay)

Teacher gives adverbs list along with meanings, in order to start building stage.

Once students engage the correct adverbs along with the format building stage will be completed.

Teacher asks students to make fast reading on adverbs,given.

Teacher will write the format

of inserting adverb on argumentative essays to the board. Teacher asks students to insert the suitable adverbs into the statements, along with reasons, that they ticked on in previous activity. Students will be asked, to read their answers to class.

While are reading their answers, other students will be drilled on format.

Closing: 2 min Students will be asked, how they feel about the class, is there any question they have or anything they did not understand. Homework: Write a 3 paragraph argumentative essay by using suitable adverbs and underline the adverbs.

Self-reflection
Previous lesson: Structure and rules of Argumentative Essay have been taught to students and I realize students does not know how to use correct adverbs in order to express their ideas more effectively in this type of essay.

Todays lesson: Students will be drilled on intensifier adverbs and how to use those adverbs in Argumentative Essays to side stronger.
