A GREAT SPORTS COACH IN THE MAKING

During career counseling, I took mock interview of a person for the post of sports manager. I found the person full of energy, vigour and willingness to do something creative. I present the mock interview for every well wisher.

Q. Why should you be selected ? A: Thank you for asking such a nice question. I have done my MBA 10 years back, and I have a vision that one day I want to work as sports manager. My personality suits this job and I am very hardworker therefore I should be selected. Q. what will be your role and How will you perform your role properly ? A: As a sports manager, my role will be liasioning with authorities, sports officers and sports personality simultaneously I shall also work for development of sports an d games. I shall try to pick up sports personality from ground level and try to shine them at international level. I have experience of all these activities and therefore I can perform all these activities. Q. What have been your achievements so far? A : I have a number of achievements in my career. One of my students with a height of 4.6 and weight of 45 kg was anxious due to poor physique. He was not able to lead routine life. He came to me and proposed to leave the school. I suggested him that each and every person has some gift from God. You can do very nice in sports not as athlete but as a jockey. Now that boy is doing in horse racing. Now he is successful in the UK and now he is well established. I have performed my role and when he was in dark I helped him. Q. What are the problems and challenges in sports sector in your region, how can those be overcome? A: I belong to Western Rajasthan, there is scarcity of water. People cannot do much of agriculture on their land and therefore we are not

financially strong. We dont have very strong sports infrastructure. Due to scarcity of water, people are hardworking and physically fit. Due to desert conditions, there is hot climate and people find less time for physical practice. We need sports infrastructure to develop people. There ar e no support systems for people. With government support, we can overcome infrastrucjture problems and indoor stadiums can be developed. If agriculture will improve, people will be financially sound and they will improve their performance in sports. Q. How do you justify millions of money to be spent on commonwealth or other such sports when there are no infrascturrure in your region? A: India is a huge country with lots of diversity. This organization is a part of development strategy for sports and games. Organizing commonwealth and spending money on this is for the development of sports and games. It is correct that there are no infrascturet, but organsign such events give a vision to the people and to the government to see that there is demand for development of sports infrastutreuture in our region. At present we dont have good infasctureture. But there is expectation. Q. Do you believe that there is money, power and politics involved in sports everywhere, how will you remain safe from these ? A : Yes, I agree, when a sports person becomes celebrity, he becomes the most demanded person. I dont want to become a celebrity , but I want to develop celebrity in our region. I want to develop sports and games in my region. I can remain away from money power, and politics. Q. What do you want to see yourself after 20 years? A: I want to be in your place but ofcourse with your supervision.

Q : What will you do to ensure that your division gets good sports budget? A: - I need not do anything my work will speak. I will try to start very hard work and this will ensure that my authorities will grant me budget. Q: do you think that networking, liasioning, presentation, media and plans dont have any role in budget allocations? A: - There is a great role of all these. All these are part of my work and they will play their role. Being a sports manager, I have to perform all these roles also. Q: - How do you wish to face public criticism and public demands from your region, because people have higher expectations than what you can deliver? A: - Being a government employee, the officer doent have much to do in his field. Being a government employee, we can just have the idea of demands and put it to the higher authorities to make them feasible. We can work as per guidance of higher authorities. All the demands and expectations may be for ethe betterment and certainly they will be fulfilled. Q. What are the biggest challenges today for public servants? A: - The person having work culture / hardworking nature will not face any problem in government sector. I have worked for last 10 years and I never faced any problems. We are getting salaries for our job and therefore we have to work. Q : How will your knowledge, skills, expertise, qualification and training help you in your job?

A: Those persons who have professional qualification are different from others. People with ability know how to get the work done. They perform their work in calculated and planned work and try to remain very organized. My experience of working as a sports teachers and experience of organizing a number of events and my MBA and my knowledge and skills will certainly help me in performing my roles.
