STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
I sincerly thank your department for responding to my preliminary application for the opportunity tendered to me. I am an undergraduate student of COMPUTER SCIENCE ENGINEERING . I wish to pursue my graduate studies - M.S followed by a DOCTORATE in your esteemed university. Extensive use of computing technologies is one of the driving forces in the technological revolution today. The latest concept of Computer Science and allied methodologies are adding a dynamic dimension to the development of software systems. As I always felt that United States Of America and West Germany are peaks of science and technology, I choose to pursue my desire in your esteemed university. My fascination for engineering is one of long standing. I have developed a natural inclination towards mathematics and physical sciences, a bent for problem solving and a desire to know more. From which I drew the inspiration to become an engineer. My academic record speaks of the assiduous, enthusiastic and determined efforts put forth by me since childhood. Right from my school through my final engineering program, I have been consistently good in academics and have always figured in the top 1 - 5% of my Batch.I was inculcated with discipline, motivation, sincerity and all other essential traits of a successful individual during my schooling. I have participated in various talent search exams conducted both in state and national level. I have received merit certificates for my performance in the examinations.To secure an admission into engineering, I took the statewide common entrance test and was among the top 1% .Apart from my course study I have taken part in extra curriculum activities like debates , essay writing, seminars and was awarded several prizes in my school and college.I was awarded MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS by the state government for my academic performance. My undergraduate course work has provided me strong fundamentals required for the graduation with courses like Computer Architechture, Microprocessors and interfacing, C-Programming and Data structures.. These courses versatile in their subject matter and instructions developed in me an appreciation for repertoire of the ideas and the amalgamation of their basic principles. This also made me pragmatic, by trying to see the practical applications of their purely technical principles. Through continuous practice I have developed a perceptive and confident approach to problem solving. The hours of hard work and effort I put in for these courses enabled me to secure good grades in

all of them. I averaged 80.96% in coursework related to my undergraduate major (an equivalent GPA of 3.9/4.00). My university here through its scientifically organized and comprehensive course curriculum has provided me with a rewarding educational experience. In retrospective I feel this is the most logical step towards realization of my career objectives.However, at the fag end of my undergraduate course, I feel that a bachelors degree would in no way satisfy my appetite for learning and contributing to this world. I feel that the undergraduate course can give the taste of enchanting subject but never the satisfaction of savoring it. With the rapid growth in technology, it is imperative to increase ones technical expertise and gain in depth knowledge to contribute to innovative research. I feel that only graduate study would furnish me with the intellectual depth and breadth along with the specialized training for a career in research. RESEARCH INTERESTS: During my early part of my undergraduate study I found Electronic Devices and circuits, Distributed Databases, Networks and Programming very much interesting. Apart from my course wotk, I have taken a course in JAVA due to my interest in programming. I was involved in a project for developing a website called Online bookstore. My final year project is also related to the web. I hope my penchant to excel in these areas will be earnestly understood. To be abreast with latest changes in Technology there can be no better place than an American university, like yours. On careful study of your prospectus and website I have found that the graduate program suits my needs perfectly and the ongoing research is in consonance with my interest. With an unparalleled range of courses and number of faculty working on my areas of interest there can be no better place than your university for pursuing my graduate studies. I strongly believe that under guidance of your highly competent research oriented faculty, I would mould my career decisively for the better. I am aware that your university expects high standards from its students, I am very confident that with my sincerity and dedication, I will be able to contribute to the research work at your university and live upto the expectations of your faculty. An assistantship besides providing financial support would gain me invaluable research/teaching experience.
