On the GO to Witness Acts 1:8

The Ridgecrester
Volume No. 61 Mother’s Day
This month we celebrate Mother’s Day, a very special holiday in our hearts and minds. I am reminded as I reflect on this holiday the impact of a mother’s love and faith upon our lives. Writing to pastor Timothy, Paul says, “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5) Though it is God who meets our every need, often He uses people to accomplish His will. Let’s thank God for godly mothers who have made an immeasurable impact on our lives, by nurturing within us a faith in the Lord that will see us through this life and on into eternity. I hope you are as excited as I am about our new Worship and Family Ministries’ leader, John Russell. Our wait is almost over and John will lead his first service at Ridgecrest on May 27th. Thank you so much Ridgecresters for your prayers and support of the search committee as we sought God’s will for our church. Thank you to all who worked and gave to prepare our missionary housing for John and Laura Leigh to occupy until they find a permanent home. Remember our prayers and service on their behalf are not over but have just begun. Let’s join together in prayer and support of John and Laura Leigh both now and after they join us so that his leadership and service will be blessed by God and so our church will be a blessing to them. In Christian service, Bro. Mike

Recognitions and Amazing Wonders
May is a busy, yet rewarding month. It signals the end of another school year and a more laid back time called summer! We have so many end-of-year programs that you need to be aware of offering you the chance to support our children and youth as they are recognized for their accomplishments. On Sunday, April 29th, we heard the Preschool and Childrens Choirs sing and be recognized for their participation in choir this past year. The participants in Youth Worship Arts were also recognized for their dedication. On Wednesday, May 9th, we will recognize our Mission Friend’s, G.A.’s, R.A.’s and our Acteens group at 6:15 p.m. during the prayer meeting in the worship center. Our AWANA recognition program will be on Sunday, May 20th, at 6:00 p.m. Please plan to attend these special programs and support our children and all of the many volunteers that work with them each week! Please sign up at the Vacation Bible School display to help with VBS. It is scheduled for Sunday, June 10th through Wednesday, June 13th, from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. each night. The theme this year is Amazing Wonders Aviation in which we will learn of God’s great love for us! Proverbs 22:6 tells us to Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it. Thanks to all of the volunteers who willingly give of their time and talents to teach our children and youth about our Lord and Savior. In His service, Susan Campbell

Well Done, Good and Faithfull Servant!
I’ve been asked by the youth, “Why did Jesus teach in parables? Why didn’t He just tell people exactly what He meant?” There are several reasons. First, He taught in parables to fulfill the prophecy of Psalm 78:2 and Isaiah 6:9-10. God in His infinite wisdom originated parables to transcend time, culture, situation and meaning. This holds true for the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), where the master gives his servants differing quantities of talents. The talents could represent, 1) money; 2) people (or actual individual talent); or 3) opportunity. It can be applied to individuals or to the entire church. Our Master, has given each of us unique talents. He wants us, as individuals, to use those talents, investing them wisely to grow His kingdom. As a Church, He provided us with finances, people and opportunities. Our challenge is to recognize our members’ talents, the opportunities He gives us, and how to invest ourselves to grow the kingdom of God. Our ministry to the children at Cypress Court Apartments is one of those opportunities that God has given us. While we were not looking for it, God gave us the opportunity to minister to underprivileged kids through the AWANA program. Several of the children have come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. The Lord has given us other opportunities like All Nations Baptist Church, and missions opportunities. As an individual, are you investing your talent wisely? As a church, are we good stewards of the opportunities God has given us? If the answer is no, why? What do we have to be afraid of? Look what happened to the servant that was afraid (v24-30). I don’t think any of us want to be “That Guy”! Our goal is to be like the first two servants! Our goal, as individuals and as a Church is to hear “Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant!” Blessings, Tom P.S. As I wrote my article this month I had no idea God would give us an immediate opportunity (before it was ever published) to be faithful and share His love. Unfortunately, on Monday, April 23, two young boys accidentally drowned at Cypress Court Apartments. We had ministered to them through block parties, and several members of our church tutored them every Tuesday and Thursday. At the news of the tragedy, our church family was immediately involved caring for the family, comforting and consoling them, and some of our members provided food for them. Ridgecrest established a memorial fund to help the family take care of the arrangements. Thank You! Thank you for your willingness to serve, for your loving kindness, and your generosity.

he is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. Proverbs 31:25-28
