History Power Point Guidelines Ms Wynnes Classes

THREE MAJOR THEMES FOR RESEARCH: Biography Presentations: People being compared: 1. Create a list of questions which your slides will answer. Make sure that each person is given the same amount of research and slides so that your presentation is balanced. 2. Start with family background, social and economic class, educations, place of birth etc. Outline major achievements, discuss the importance of these achievements during the lifetime of the person and today. 3. Use maps, statistics, images and pictures.

Major Social and Political Events(revolutions, wars, battles etc): Revolutions or battles being compared: 1. Put the events in chronological order from oldest to most recent. Use dates. Give detailed background on major leaders and events. Dont forget to make a comparison! 2. Make sure you give the same amount of information for each topic you are comparing. 3. Use plenty of maps, statistics (graphs that are well labeled), images and pictures.

Culture/Peoples: societies being analysed and compared: 1. Put the events in chronological order from oldest to most recent. Make sure to discuss political and social structure, religion, art and culture, technological achievements and inventions, education. 2. Make sure you give the same amount of information for each topic you are comparing. Dont forget to make a comparison! 3. Use plenty of maps, statistics (graphs that are well labeled), images and pictures.

General Guidelines:
1. Text should be clear, concise and to the point (dont clutter the slide with more than 5 bullet points) 2. Graphics must be VERY CLEAR not foggy or blurry. They should include plenty of maps, graphs, photos, art, charts etc. 3. Sound is optional but you can provide voice overs and music to your presentation. 4. You can imbed short videos however these should not be more than 4 minutes in length in total. 5. You MUST add notes to all slides with references and additional information which you would verbalize when giving an oral presentation. (giving futher background information, explanation etc.) 6. Animation should be used for special effect or emphasis. It SHOULD NOT distract from the information presented on that slide, rather it should be used to complement the work being presented. 7. Besides the content your presentation should have an appropriate background and colour or theme that fits with the content. You should NOT have a different background colour or design for each slide. 8. This is NOT a CUT-AND-PASTE project!!! Thought, research, critical thinking and organization must be evident to obtain a high grade. 9. A comparative analysis is required no matter what the subject of your power point. Make sure to use comparative slide formats i.e. 2-3 columns clearly comparing and contrasting the subjects of your research. ( a comparison lists what is similar AND want is different) 10. It is key that your presentation is in chronological format, with the oldest reference or subject matter coming first and the most recent coming last etc.) Create an accurate timeline to ensure your data is in the proper chronological order.

Your Grade will be based on the following criteria: 60 points- for content, historical accuracy and critical analysis 20 points- for visuals, graphics, effects and presentation skills 20 points- for organization, formatting, clarity, continuity, slide notes, references.
