Utah, Uinta Forest spotlight trouble with bark beetles


The states conifer forests, particularly in the Uinta Range of northern Utah, have taken a huge hit, as evidenced by the red-shaded areas, shown right. The U.S. Forest Service estimates that from 1998-2010, 13.6 million conifer trees were lost to insects, primarily pine beetles, and disease. That represents about 1.9 million acres of forested area.
