RESUMO A busca por solues alternativas para o consumo do petrleo, desde a dcada de 1970 at hoje, e a preocupao com a poluio ambiental e a emisso de gases de efeito estufa na atmosfera reforam cada vez mais a importncia da produo comercial dos biocombustveis. Este artigo analisa a evoluo do etanol e do biodiesel no Brasil e examina a tecnologia disponvel em direo a um desenvolvimento sustentvel. The search for alternative solutions for the consumption of the petroleum, since the decade of 1970 until and the concern with environmental pollution and reduction of gas emissions in the atmosphere intensifies the importance of the commercial production of the biofuels. This article analyzes the evolution of ethanol and biodiesel in Brazil and examines the technology available towards a sustainable development.
